About the Doctor

David Smith

Dr. David Smith is the founder of Gateway Foot & Ankle Center. Originally from Memphis, Tennessee, he graduated from the University of Memphis in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Chemistry and a Bachelor of Arts in German Language and Literature. Dr. Smith continued his education at Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine in Illinois.

He then completed his training in Iowa at the highest designation type podiatry residency, Podiatric Medicine & Surgery-36. There he acquired training in arthroscopic ankle surgery, internal and external fixation of foot and ankle trauma, Charcot reconstruction, adolescent and adult flatfoot correction, and extensive wound care/amputation prevention, besides the standard podiatry training for the surgical and non-surgical treatment of bunions, hammertoes, warts, plantar fasciitis, etc.

Dr. Smith enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, assisting with Boy Scouts of America and assistant coaching baseball and softball. He is looking forward to raising his children locally and settling in for the long haul.

About the Doctor

Dr. Matthew Truscello

Dr. Truscello joined Gateway Foot & Ankle Center in the summer of 2011 after completing his residency training in Louisville, KY.  Originally from Charlotte, NC, he considers himself a “mutt” with regards to a hometown as he moved around quite often as a child. Dr. Truscello enjoys working in Clarksville, Hopkinsville and Cadiz, he looks forward to further expanding to the surrounding areas. Prior to Louisville he received his Bachelor of Science in Biology from North Carolina State University where he was also a member of the men’s varsity soccer team.  Dr. Truscello then moved north to Cleveland, OH where he attended The Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine for his medical education.

In 2008, Dr. Truscello relocated to Louisville, KY where he completed his high level surgical residency training at Norton Hospital. Dr. Truscello is Board Certified and trained in all ailments of the foot and ankle. His knowledge and skills allow him to perform the highest and most difficult surgical procedures of the forefoot and rearfoot as well as ankle reconstruction and trauma. From palliative nail care and heel pain to severe forefoot/rearfoot and ankle surgical reconstruction, Dr. Truscello is here to offer his services to the community. Whether it’s an ingrown toenail or a traumatic ankle fracture, Dr. Truscello is eager to treat you and get you “back on your feet”.

Dr. Truscello believes he has been very blessed and appreciates the support of his family. He enjoys spending time with friends and family, golfing, and his dog Layla. He loves work but always looks forward to getting home to his wife Whitney, their daughter Piper and son Brooks.
